Since the launch of Dubai Can in February this year, a sustainable initiative of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, over 500,000 liters of filtered drinking water has been dispensed from the 35 public drinking water fountains that are installed across the city of Dubai which is the equivalent of over 1 million 500ml single use plastic bottles.

As part of the Dubai Can initiative, businesses in Dubai are also encouraged to make a switch to filtered drinking water solutions in their offices as an alternative to plastic bottled water consumption. Last week saw the launch of the solutions in Dubai Chamber as Liquid of Life implemented a range of their patented filtered drinking water dispensers throughout the building providing ambient, cold and chilled sparkling water to staff and visitors to the iconic LEED Platinum certified building. The solutions were also installed with Liquid of Life's smart iwater meters to help monitor the consumption and measure the impact throughout the building.

Yousuf Lootah, Executive Director of Tourism Development and Investment at Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Vice-Chairman of Dubai Sustainable Tourism Programme, shared the idea behind the campaign and the importance of fostering a refill culture to help reduce plastic bottled waste in the city.

Rukhsana Kausar, founding Partner of Liquid of Life also delivered an Awareness Session to staff talking about the issues surrounding plastic pollution and climate change followed by an interactive quiz designed to share knowledge about some of the pressing issues we face today and to encourage everyone to adopt sustainable habits.
