Emirati Womens Day

Blog post from Lubna Qassim, BBG Director of UAE Alliances

We, women of UAE, have every reason to celebrate Emirati Women’s Day, on this day and every day, we  celebrate our achievements, we celebrate our lessons and most importantly we celebrate our continuous progress to achieve Gender Parity.

We are privileged in UAE because we have Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubrak, mother of our nation, who passionately champions this very important cause and has tirelessly made it her personal mission to stand as a pillar of strength for every woman from UAE or who resides in UAE for more than 4 decades.

I witness, regretabbly, various struggles & challenges of women across the globe. Across various continents women struggle to have access to education and access to workforce and fair treatment in work place however we in UAE are extremely privileged because our caring leadership have built a world class infrastructure for women to flourish & progress.

The outside world treats Middle East through homogenous eyes. However, UAE has led and pioneered its efforts on Gender Parity and most importantly UAE has an amazing pool of female talent across various industries who shatter glass ceilings every day.

UAE today is ranked first in GCC aim gender equality and is also the first country in the Arab World to introduce a mandatory law for the representation of women in government and corporate boards.

This year is particularly special because Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak announced that this year’s Emirati women’s day will the carry the theme of “Women on the course of Zayed”. To mark this honourable theme the British Business Group has decided to celebrate it with an inspiring panel discussion with women who have excelled on the course of Zayed across different industries. This is also a testament of the British Business Group’s commitment to Gender Parity.

Many nations wish they could achieve gender equality, others wish it could happen and some make it happen.

I strongly believe we all have an inclusive and important role to play, men and women, to achieve gender parity. The gap is wide and it will not happen unless we make it happen.
