Waste to Wonder: the Social Enterprise Challenging the Concept of Waste

Last week we had a great chat with Michael Amos, Managing Director of BCCD member Waste to Wonder, an award-winning ethical clearance social enterprise challenging the concept of waste worldwide.

Waste to Wonder provides companies with an environmentally sensitive approach to dispose of their redundant office and IT equipment. With a strict zero-to-landfill policy, Michael and his team ensure ethical reuse by donating 100% of the material to people and communities in need around the world.

What started as a fortuitous UK project in 2002, quickly and organically grew to become an international social enterprise operating across EMEA, APAC and North America.

To date, Waste to Wonder Worldwide has equipped over 1400 schools in 40 countries, donated over £36m in office equipment to good causes around the world and diverted tens of thousands of tonnes of equipment from waste. They also fulfil 16 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals!

Less than two weeks ago, Waste to Wonder hit a significant milestone in their journey and global expansion efforts by officially registering its UAE entity in the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ), who have also been active members of British Chamber of Commerce Dubai for quite some time.

Commenting on their new UAE venture, Michael said, “In the UAE things can happen very quickly. One conversation can easily turn into 10 if you know the region and have the right network. Registering our company was so simple. There definitely is a huge regional appetite for companies actively involved in sustainable projects.”

Waste to Wonder are looking forward to supporting businesses across the region achieve their ESG ambitions and enhancing the legacy of COP28.
