The Institution of Civil Engineers UAE Branch is delighted to invite you to its Annual Gala Dinner on Friday 6 October 2023 at the Address Dubai Marina. Popular after dinner speaker Michael Dobbs is joining the event once again, after first entertaining the industry at the annual gathering in 2014. As always it will be lots of fun, plenty of networking, good food and beverages, great programme and all emceed by favourite Dubai based broadcaster Tom Urqhart. This is the industry's No.1 social gathering of the year - make sure you are there!

Michael Dobbs - or Lord Dobbs of Wylye as he's known when he's got his political hat on - has spent a lifetime blurring fact and fiction. He is the author of House of Cards, a book he wrote thirty years ago which turned into one of the biggest sensations in television history and won him five Emmy nominations. He's also enjoyed a ringside seat on many historic occasions; he was with Margaret Thatcher when she walked into Downing Street as Prime Minister and he was with John Major 18 years later when he was kicked out! One rueful Prime Minister said Dobbs ‘has done for my job what Dracula had done for babysitting’. No wonder he has been called 'Westminster's baby-faced hit man'. More recently he has survived prostate cancer, was invited to the Coronation, sits on advisory boards for cultural and health matters on three continents, is a worldwide authority on Winston Churchill and somewhere along the way has found time to be a university professor on both sides of the Atlantic. It’s been suggested that the British Establishment put him in the House of Lords to keep him quiet. They failed hopelessly!
