Moderator

Ayhan TUGRUL, General Manager
CARES

Ayhan Tugrul is General Manager at CARES where he is responsible for the development and effective implementation of CARES strategies and business plans. He is an active member of the CARES Board and Policy Advisory Committee as well as operational technical committees.

Ayhan is a competent technical expert in relation to sustainability and construction steel supply chain. Prior to joining CARES in early 2007, Ayhan has worked for major plc's gaining experience in the international certification and steel industries.

He was born in Turkey and educated at Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Chemistry and Metallurgy where he gained a BSc in Metallurgy and Material Science Engineering continued with a post graduate course in Sheffield University.

Throughout his career, Ayhan has attended numerous general management and specialist training courses. In particular, he has developed an extensive knowledge of management system standards (QMS, EMS and OH&MS), strategic planning and market research for the steel industry, corporate social accountability, sustainability as well as Life Cycle Assessments and Environmental Product Declaration – EPD Reporting.

He has presented a number of seminars for construction and related industry professionals across a range of industry topics.

Graeme Bowles, Senior Lecturer
Heriot-Watt University

Graeme leads the postgraduate MSc programmes in Construction Project Management and Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying at Edinburgh campus. He also leads the Graduate Apprenticeship programme in Construction and the Built Environment.

His research and teaching interests relate to value and cost management, procurement efficiency and whole life costing and he has supervised and examined many PhD students over the course of his academic career.

Darren is a Chartered Electrical Engineer with over 14 years of experience in project management and sustainable MEP building services design. An advocate for sustainable and energy efficient designs, he is a specialist in sustainable design engineering strategies for LEED, Estidama and Dubai Green Building Regulations.

He has an enviable track record in sustainable project delivery across various sectors, including mixed-use development, retail, residential, hospitality, commercial and offices, nuclear, education, industrial, healthcare and cultural.

Riyaz Kazi, Programme, Project and Commercial Management, Practice Lead
Mott MacDonald Middle East

Riyaz has 14 years of experience in the construction and civil engineering industry working across Clients, Design Consultancies and Construction Contractors, working in a variety of projects and transformations. Most recently, Riyaz was the client representative overseeing the construction of the New Zealand Pavilion at Expo 2020, Dubai, UAE.

Riyaz has a Masters degree in Engineering from the University of Sheffield, UK, and is a chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a Member of the Association of Project Management.

Riyaz takes a keen interest in emerging technologies and how these can be implemented throughout the project delivery lifecycle and also effective contracting methodologies focusing on achieving client outcomes. Riyaz recently posted a LinkedIn article titled ‘Holistic outcomes require holistic incentivisation’, such thoughts are linked extensively to a whole life cycle approach to value creation in construction
