Safe Hands: Workplace Wellness

BBG Member Rebecca Smith, Managing Director of Safe Hands shares views on Workplace Wellness

During these current times, we at Safe Hands know very well that a lot of people are feeling the stress of these uncertain times. 2020 has not been a great year with the constant changing lifestyle and adapting to the ever changing new normal. If we liked it or not, we had to modify our home and working life swiftly and revert back to working with our colleagues again just as quick.

During Lockdown many people used this time to embrace exercise, eating well and enjoyed a little more sleep but now we have to adapt to working back in the office with less time to exercise, eat well and no more sleep ins. On the other hand, people also developed some unhealthy physical and mental habits like stopping exercise during lock down, ordering take outs, staying up late and watching tv. No matter what direction you headed, it is now affecting your mental and physical health.  According to a recent study, 53% of adults said that their mental health has been negatively impacted due to worry and stress over the coronavirus, resulting in a decrease in mental and physical wellbeing in and out of the workplace.

From our client interaction, it is very clear that many people want 2021 to become a positive year for both physically and mentally health. This is one change that we think would be very welcomed.

Safe Hands goal for 2021 is to implement bespoke Wellness programs in corporate companies that helping people adopt and maintain healthy behaviors. Our wellness strategy aims to ultimately increase health and wellbeing amongst employees whilst keeping insurance premiums and claims as low as possible. Companies with engaged employees report 37% lower absenteeism levels, up to 65% lower employee turnover, 10% higher customer satisfaction; 21% higher productivity, and 22% higher profitability.

Our approach to wellness is:

Prevention – Through our health screenings and wellness checks, we aim to detect health conditions before they reach a critical stage.
Management – After establishing areas for improvement or existing conditions, we ensure that your employees have access to the support needed to manage or improve their condition.
Education – We have access to leading experts to impart knowledge in key areas of health and wellbeing. Providing employees with the information they need to make sustainable decisions and change.
Engagement – As much as we are super passionate about what we do, we want your employees to be too. We promote engagement through relevant promotions and incentives.

Healthy behaviors lead to lower health risks and lower health risks lead to less chronic disease.  With less chronic disease, employees have fewer health care costs as well as a more productive work environment. 67% of companies with workplace wellness programs reported that employees are more satisfied.
