LESSONS FROM COVID-19: The Science. Medicine. Technology & People

Risky Business Events, in collaboration with The BMJ and Great Ormond Street Hospital, supported by the Medical Protection Society, partnered to create a free, virtual conference for the multidisciplinary teams in the pandemic frontline and here share the highlights of that event.

The idea of the event was to provide front-line clinical professionals who have been working flat out and exhausted with a succinct latest update on the science, the medicine, the technology and the people (well being) with respect to the Covid-19 crisis.

Chaired by TV news presenters Charlie Stayt & Katie Derham, 22 world experts came together to discuss the latest science and challenges of Covid-19 including a key note speech from former UK Prime Minister the Right Honourable Tony Blair on the Global Challenge of Covid-19.

Organised by the team at Great Ormond street Hospital in collaboration with the BMJ and supported by the Medical Protection Society, the conference included:

  • Opening address from Matthew Shaw, CEO of Great Ormond Street Hospital on conceiving the idea for the Nightingale Hospital in the Excel centre in London
  • Cutting edge science on the pathophysiology of Covid-19 and the progress towards a vaccine
  • Experiences of front line staff in ICU on what we have learnt
  • Industry leaders from Zoom, Formula 1 and the aviation sector on how they managed and contributed to the UK’s management of Covid-19
  • Keynote speech from former UK Prime Minister the Right Honourable Tony Blair on the Global Challenge of Covid-19
