A dangerous title to this week’s message as I write it between the glory of Saturday’s group of 16 FIFA World Cup Quarter Finals and the unknown but passionate hope of Wednesday’s Semi-
Final between England and Croatia.
Oh well, sometimes we need to take a calculated risk! As this is due to be posted on Thursday morning, I will add a caveat to my title choice by saying - many of you are coming/going home over the Summer - safe travels one and all!
Despite our team also coming and going over the last week or so, I am pleased to update you on the traction and hard work being put in by the BBG business team (aka operations) since the recent group strategy day. One initiative that has been launched over the last week is the introduction of a new membership category – Membership Lite.
We want to ensure that you – our members – have more flexibility in terms of membership options. We recognise that there is a need to expand our solutions beyond simply individuals and businesses. The first step has been to open up a tailored solution for businesses with less than 20 employees – Business Lite. Stay tuned to see how the rest of our membership categories will evolve over the coming months.
At the same time this week, we have introduced a special summer promotion for membership which sees the joining fee waived for all new members signing before 30th September, and which also offers a discounted membership rate of AED 2,500 for Business membership (includes 2 members), AED 1,500 for Business Lite (including 1 member) and AED 699 for Individual membership. For more details and to take advantage of this limited time offer, please visit bbgdubai.org
Please pass this deal on to like-minded professionals who want to be part of the region’s go-to business group, a group that truly enables members to succeed. All they need to do is to contact the business team on 04 3970303 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Another one of our initiatives for summer - and beyond - is to remind all those with a Business (company) membership, that all of their employees are now entitled to be treated as ‘members’ too, so they can attend any of our events at any time for the member rate. ‘Why restrict our membership base?’ was a consistent question asked during the member engagement programme undertaken over the last year, and it was a valid point. The more we engage, the more we have to share, and in turn, the more our valuable sponsors and partners are able to support us and add even more value.
These new initiatives are just the tip of the iceberg following our strategy day, and even during the holiday season the business team are working hard to cement additional initiatives and value for you – our members.
I’m now back in town for the summer myself and look forward to meeting many of you at upcoming events - both social and business – and will continue to keep updating you of our progress.
So whether it’s coming home or you’re going home - let’s enjoy!

View from the Chair - Off the Grid...
I shared some views on ‘family’ last week and the importance of our group - not just from a business perspective - in remembering and helping our friends and peers who may not be that fortunate in having theirs nearby.
Over the years – particularly from a social perspective – I have often heard the British Business Group Dubai & Northern Emirates being described as a ‘family’.
In the context of human society, a family (from the Latin: familia) is a group of people related either by consanguinity (by recognised birth), affinity (by marriage or other relationship), or co-residence (as implied by the etymology of the English word ‘family’).
Those of you that have been dedicated in following my weekly ramblings will know that a key focus for our Group has been to strengthen and ‘press the re-set button’ on the relationship between BBG and our British Embassy HMG hosts in the UAE.
View from the Chair - A warm Great British welcome…
With his feet firmly under the HMCG desk and having been formally presented to his new Diplomatic post, the BBG Dubai & Northern Emirates is pleased to warmly welcome Andrew Jackson to his new post of Her Majesty’s Consul General, at the British Embassy in Dubai.
As a professionally organised and managed business group that works hard to enable our members to succeed, we have taken an abundance of advice in relation to how we communicate with you, our members, and all stakeholders of the BBG, Dubai & Northern Emirates, in relation to new data protection legislation [GDPR].
