The View From The Chair - New Year - new start?

Tue, January 16, 2018

Well, no actually. The resounding message from your committee this January is that we are continuing our trajectory of improvement and nailing down relevance of membership of the region's go-to business group, building on the back of the encouraging feedback and progress we made last year.

The #member4member engagement campaign that kicked off last summer continues at full pace. The communications and website relaunch is just around the corner and we can't wait to reveal this to you all over the next few weeks. Along with the special sub groups, who have been considering and implementing a more interactive and benefit laden event programme for you for 2018, and a new tier of support, with Pearl Sponsorship successfully launched and Al Tayer Motors LLC and JacksonMSV already onboard. These developments have allowed your Group to invest in technology and the other resources required to deliver to member expectations - without increasing the burden of cost to members.

In fact, as of this week, we have reduced that burden by extending our member rate to all employees from member companies. From today, all employees of BBG Business Member companies will be invited to book our events at the member rate. We have created a booking request email specifically for employees without log in credentials: booking@bbgdxb.com so they can now easily register by sending a quick email from the company email address. We ask that you pass on this good news to your colleagues and hope to see many new faces attending our events over the coming months.

In terms of these upcoming events, our first networking event of 2018 takes place on Wednesday night at Media One Hotel, so once you've ploughed through those emails, messages and calendar requests, make sure you sign up here and join us on Wednesday night to get reconnected again for 2018!

Next week we continue our Ambassador Lunch series, following the highly successful lunch in November when we welcomed HMA to KSA, Simon Collis, to address our group on the changes afoot in the Kingdom. How prescient his thoughts proved to be?! This month we welcome HMA to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Nicholas Hopton, to give us the view from our neighbours just across the water. These Ambassador Lunches are incredibly well attended, so I would urge you to sign up now here to ensure your place.

And of course, we couldn't talk about events in January without highlighting our first Great British Burns Night at the end of the month. We're bringing a modern rock Ceilidh band to Dubai just for the occasion to give us a Burns Night with a modern twist - you can find out more here.

And finally, while we're on the subject of events, a special shout out this week to our Events Director, Nicola Holmes, who has been blessed with a beautiful addition to her family - Lily Belle.

So, that's it for this week, please continue to engage with your fellow members in continuance of the #member4member campaign and don't hesitate to 'buttonhole' myself, your committee members or focus chairs to make your voice heard.

Here's to a successful, peaceful and prosperous 2018

Catch up soon.
