The View from the Chair - ‘Every contact leaves a trace’ Prof. Locard’s Principle of Exchange

Wed, February 21, 2018

I first learned about this principle, in the physical sense, while working in the MetPolice in the early 1980’s as a young detective. In short, physical evidence collected from a crime scene - such as fingerprints - were the trace required to complete the case.
Of course, in life and business in general, this principle of every contact leaving a trace has much broader implications once we harness its power collectively. We can achieve so much more working together as a cooperative or group of like-minded individuals.
With the last few weeks having such a focus on various different avenues for social responsibility in our chosen market, it is great to see so many initiatives supported by our Group.
Our members have been out and about in the community supporting breast cancer awareness throughout October, with men’s health coming to the forefront for Movember - where a number of us have been challenged to get out of our comfort zone to support this worthwhile cause. With the chance to win a month’s membership from BBG member Talise Fitness for the most impressive top-lip adornment, even your Chairman is attempting the growth of a pretty ‘Bang-On!’ moustache in the coming weeks. Please join this collaborative group effort, it’s not too late, all you need to do is share a picture of your moustache on social media and tag @BBGOnline #BBGMoBro (for more details click here)

Meanwhile, The Dubai Fitness Challenge - brainchild of HH Shiekh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is an amazing example of harnessing the power of the many. To get a whole city focusing on the benefit of exercise presents an opportunity for a generation shift in focus - from sedentary to active. This can only be a good thing? Your own BBG team took on the challenge and are still hard at work to achieve their 30x30 (and outdo the British Centres for Business in the spirit of a little friendly rivalry!)

Of course, we are a business group with a strong #member4member focus where the same principles of cooperation apply. Over the next couple of weeks we have a number of member specific learning events lead by our voluntary focus chairs. Most relevant to this conversation would be our breakfast on Teamwork 2.0 on Tuesday, where we will hear more from team leadership expert and BBG member, Andy Fieldhouse, from The Team Space. There’s still time to register for this event and others at
Whilst you ruminate your requirements and attendance at these valuable events for members, take a moment to also support our group efforts for social responsibility - something that our Group has been proud to lead the field in for the past 30 years.
On a final note - the next month takes us in to the build up to the festive season (although much of this build up started in the malls before the summer!) I hope to see you all at the various events planned, both business and social to ensure our group leaves an indelible trace on 2017.
