What has Nicola been up to, and what has he got planned for this coming Committee year?
What inspired you to join the BBG Dubai & Northern Emirates Committee? My events company Custard was established in 2010 and has grown on the basis of reputation and referral. I am a strong believer in being part of communities and supporting fellow business owners, particularly SME’s, in achieving success in their respective areas.
Having been involved with ILEA, the regional events industry body, I sought a broader, established community to which I felt both Custard, and myself personally, could contribute. With it’s 30 year history, BBG is the perfect group to be a part of, particularly with it’s member for member commitment.
What does your role involve? I work closely with the BBG office providing strategic direction on the programming and content of events, and maintaining and building quality events for ALL members covering business, social and educational. I also engage with key venue providers ensuring that BBG members are offered the best possible rates whilst maintaining quality events, and engage with attendees at events to source your feedback.
Is there anything special you have been working on? Yes LOTS. I have been working closely with the BBG office to:
1.Build relationships and collaborative opportunities with Groups and Councils, including a recently established monthly round-table with the British Embassy & British Council, and a bi-monthly round-table with numerous other Business Councils, as well as partnerships with both the Dubai Business Women’s Council, Micropolis SME network and 30% Club.
2.Develop new event formats including the Great British Day Out, targeted at members and their families, the Women In Business sessions, and more exciting events soon to be announced. I’ve also been working on business-generating events such as trade fairs and Britain in the Region events.
3.Create a proactive programme of best-in-market speakers and hot topics for the future.
4.Engage with new venue providers, with a focus on non-traditional locations, and looking at how to enhance the experience at established events such as the Christmas Ball and BBG annual Golf Day.
What’s next? We will continue to create events that members can’t afford to miss, making sure these are busy events with new faces to network with, as well as create new and unique events.
