IDG’s Jake Meyer achieves his ambition – to summit K2

Jake Meyer, one of IDG’s consultants specialising in high performance, successfully reached the top of K2 on Saturday 21st July, after years of preparation, training, persistence and hard work.

Jake, who in 2005 was the youngest Briton to climb Everest, achieved his life-long aspiration of summiting K2 and is only the 10th Briton to do so. K2, the second highest mountain in the world, is acknowledged by National Geographic as “the ultimate challenge for the world’s best mountaineers” due to the difficulty of ascent. This was Jake’s third attempt in 12 years having previously been denied by bad weather and an avalanche.

Jake said: “This mountain and this dream has required more of me than almost anything else in my life. It has haunted my dreams, it has distracted me from many much more ‘important’ things in life. However, I can now say that it’s all been worth it. A massive thank you to my sponsors, including IDG, Bremont and the several very special others who’ve financially contributed to make this adventure possible. Finally, and most importantly, thank you to my wife Saskia. As always she has been my rock.”

In realising his ambition, Jake has also raised a significant amount of money for Walking With The Wounded, his nominated charity. Walking With The Wounded help veterans re-integrate into society following active service. Jake is a commissioned officer in the British Army Reserve who served in Afghanistan and uses his experiences both in the army and as a mountaineer to design and deliver award-winning leadership development programmes for IDG.

Stephen Bennett, IDG’s Chairman said: “Superlatives just can’t do justice to such an amazing achievement. Jake’s determination to succeed and his resilience through adversity are an inspiration to us all at IDG-he truly lives our brand and has taken it , quite literally, to new heights. He (along with Saskia, his long-suffering wife!) deserves all the praise and admiration he is getting. Jake, we salute you!”
