Amal Murad - First Female Emirati Parkour Instructor
Born in 1992, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Amal Murad who was a 22 year-old graphic designer working in the corporate world at the time, decided to try Parkour training at her cousin’s calisthenics gym, Gravity DXB. ‘Parkour’ stems from the French word ‘parcours’ meaning ‘the way through’ or ‘the path’. Her skill level was noted by her cousin Yousuf Al Gurg, who helped her achieve her goal to become the first Emirati all-ladies Parkour trainer since there weren’t any classes for ladies during that time in the region. Amal decided to let go of her stable corporate job of 3 years by pursuing a career to become a full-time coach and personal trainer.
In addition to being a Nike Ambassador, Amal worked towards being a certified Level 3 Personal Trainer (REPS) and a certified Calisthenics Level 2 Instructor (WCO). Her classes demonstrate the fundamentals of the freestyle sport that involves controlling movement, running, climbing, flipping and vaulting over obstacles. To Amal, Parkour is a form of expression and the way one flows through movement. Apart from the physical aspect, she helps her students build confidence to overcome their fears. Slowly through learning this sport, people start realizing that the obstacles they are overcoming are the mental blocks they have set for themselves more than the physical ones they are climbing. As the first female Emirati Parkour trainer, her aim is to inspire more people to discover what their minds and bodies are capable of and how much they can achieve when they set their minds to something greater than themselves.
