Opportunities from Late Life Asset Management and Decommissioning in the Up, Mid and Downstream sectors

As many of the oil and gas fields, and their associated infrastructure, in the region reach the end of their economic life, the energy industry now faces the challenge of decommissioning. In a low oil price environment and with greater public awareness of environmental and social issues, the responsibility of getting decommissioning philosophy right is more pressing than it has ever been.

Decommissioning will be a new and active sector of the market that poses very different difficulties to those of traditional energy projects. It is time to discuss the choices, evaluate how they apply regionally and examine what lessons can be learned from other parts of the world and other industries.

Steve Gilbert. Director, Asset Management & Decommissioning. Lloyd's Register Energy.

With over 25 years of Oil & Gas experience, including over 15 years in Managerial and Senior Managerial positions, Steve has extensive exposure and knowledge of both UK and International projects, managing engineering, operational and commercial teams along with involvement in high-level acquisitions. From an Engineering background, Steve has had exposure to HPHT, High H2S, multi-lateral and subsea wells amongst others, and has extensive knowledge of working with all offshore installations on a worldwide basis. Steve now heads up LR’s global decommissioning function which spans Oil and Gas, Ship Recycling and the Nuclear Sector. He will provide an overview of the decommissioning sector with a focus on the assets in the UAE

A recent article in the FT on the price of oil commented that the "notion that a sustainable rise is imminent is built on sand", suggesting that current conditions will prevail for a while yet.  In the latest instalment of our Energy & Legal Focus dinner, we will discuss current market conditions, the impact on the regional economy and look at what may be on the horizon.

Please confirm your attendance by 12 noon on Sunday 4th February. This is a Pre-Pay Event so your place will not be confirmed until payment is received. Cancellations will be accepted before 12 noon on Sunday 4th February and ‘’No show fees’’ will be applicable after that date.
